Dr Alexia Cardona, PhD
Dr Alexia Cardona is an academic expert in the areas of Data Science, Data Management, and Bioinformatics Education. Throughout her career, she has successfully established and led both award-bearing courses and non-award-bearing training programmes that build capacity in these domains.
At the national level, Dr Cardona serves as the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN) Local Network Lead for Cambridge and the ELIXIR-UK Training Platform Coordinator. In these roles, she represents the University of Cambridge on committees and projects that promote skills development of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reproducible) principles and practices in data and software.
At the international level, Dr Cardona co-leads training projects within ELIXIR Europe, collaborating with leaders and partners across Europe to enhance the development of high-quality higher education non-award-bearing programmes supporting data and software training.
Dr Cardona is also a committed advocate for the representation of women in leadership and computational fields, where they remain underrepresented. She currently serves as co-chair of the University of Cambridge Women’s Staff Network and is a member of both Newnham College and Lucy Cavendish College, which prioritise women’s education, inclusion, and diversity.
